2021 04 Celebrating spring - high merit

For this piece, I wanted to utilize the composition of a building to express the sense of gradual decay that every person and thing on this planet experiences. While buildings are made from some of the most durable and strongest building materials, such as concrete and steel, they are not immune to external damages. I did not want this scene to provoke a sense of resistance towards change, but, rather, showcase how despite these inevitable changes life simply moves on. I chose to contrast this gradual degradation against a clear blue sky to show that despite the changes our creations face, the world around us moves down the same path it has always moved down. Thus, the things that we create and humans ourselves are temporary visitors in a place that has existed far before us and will likely exist after we are gone. In essence, I wanted this piece to show that change is the only permanent aspect of life, so rather than fight it we should accept the beauty that lies within that fact.
