The “Laundro Spinn” is an art piece designed to resemble a tool kit that many women in developing countries use on a daily basis. I intentionally designed this piece to resemble something that would make work easier by utilizing a design that keeps the most functional and necessary aspects of the tools used while disregarding superfluous features. Most importantly, however, it is a product that showcases the intensive nature of work that women are doing all across the world. Working tools have been developed and revised for better performance and convenience, for instance, tools such as the “Laundro Spinn” were responsible for the birth of the laundry machine in Western culture. I wanted to keep the spirit of intense work in its design while acknowledging and examining the housekeeping work that many women in third world countries perform. This piece reflects that technology should not only evolve with the users in mind but also connect with their experiences.
