2021 04 Genius Olympiad - Silver medal

This piece represents how the emotions that we associate with specific events are constantly fading from our memories no matter how recently they happened. For instance, when I am retold stories about things that I did during childhood (most of which I cannot remember), I am faced with the fact that everything I know is slowly disappearing. Thus, I wanted to create something that reflected the temporary nature of so many things that exist both around and within me. One of the most prominent features of this piece is my younger self in the bottom corner. Interestingly, I wanted to keep myself black and white and give the matter around me all of the color. While the colors around me are bright, they also have a corrosive quality to them that makes them appear to be almost radioactive. This was an intentional design as my aim was to showcase the underlying nature of our surroundings: ephemerality.
